Tonight’s STORIES:

Monologue: Elon Musk unveils $20 billion ‘TeraFab’ chip project to make chips, memory, and package processors all under one roof — targets a terawatt of annual compute

Tech Watch: Elon just launched Terafab – Tesla, SpaceX, and xAl combined into one chip factory. This is under construction in Austin Texas.

Goal: one terawatt of Al compute per year.

Every chip fab on Earth produces a mere 20 gigawatts.

Musk wants to harness 50 times that, and is now taking steps to do so.

In his scenario, a whopping 80% goes to space. Solar satellites. A mass driver on the Moon. No rockets. No fuel. The Mass Driver will launch objects directly into orbit from the moon without expensive chemical rockets, circumventing the massive energy requirements of leaving Earth’s atmosphere

Musk calls his Chip Fab the next step toward a galactic civilization. We have to catch up by reading Ian Banks because it looks like he was right.
