Key Points from the Monologue: 

The problem: Social Security’s trust fund for retirement benefits may run out in 2032. 

Three options to fix this have been proposed:  Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La. proposed an either or choice, do nothing and let the estimated 23-28 percent benefit cuts happen, or enact a combination of tax increases and benefit cuts. Sen. Cassidy also offered to create a diversified investment fund to help shore up the program’s finances.
