This past Thursday, Tesla hosted an event to unveil the Tesla Truck, which is scheduled to start production in late 2021.
A lot happened during the event, including a botched attempt to showcase the truck’s “bulletproof-glass.” Elon tested the glass by striking it with a metal ball, causing it to shatter on a live broadcast. This left many questioning the look, durability, and even the use of the vehicle.
So far, we know that there will be several versions of the truck ranging in price and starting at $39,900. This will include a single motor-rear wheel drive and a tri-motor all-wheel drive.
The vehicle can seat six people and will have a very tech-savvy interior allowing the driver and passengers to plug up tools of they need to be charged. There will also be an option to add on self-driving capabilities for $7000, likely giving you other features like “summon.”

At first glance, the overall shape of the truck makes me think of movies like Terminator, Robocop, and Blade Runner. It has sharp edges and a retro-futuristic feel that completely goes against the recent trends of modern automakers. The next big question is, who is the “CyberTruck” for?
So far, we can’t tell how durable the truck will be upon release, and even if we did how many people are in the market for a bulletproof vehicle.
Anybody who wants to purchase the “CyberTruck” will have a couple of significant factors to sway their decision. The bulky nature of the vehicle makes it very hard to see it as a practical purchasing decision. Also, after seeing the “bulletproof- glass” fail, it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that there could be other problems looming under the stainless steel exterior. Honestly, anybody who gets the truck is bound to receive an incredible amount of attention within the first couple of months of owning.
On the bright side, the specs are pretty dang impressive, assuming everything works and runs smoothly. It seems like Elon is trying to appeal to the off-road enthusiasts who like to go where the ride may get a bit rough.
He may even want to sell a few to the armed forces, who knows? The highest model has a driving range of 500 miles, can go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds, and has a max tow weight of 14,000 pounds. For the right person, this can be an all in one Swiss Army knife of a truck that will be well equipped for almost any heavy-duty job.
Tesla shocked the world for sure, as usual. So far, the “CyberTruck” has seen some early bumps in the road, no pun intended. As of now, I can’t say that I am a huge fan of the way Tesla designed the vehicle, but I can say that I do like the functionality. I would need to see some significant changes in the exterior to consider a purchase.
