Before the candidates were announced on first night of CNN’s Democratic presidential debates in Detroit, Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, took the stage.

The Chair called the city of Detroit the ‘pulse of the nation’ before referring to President Trump as ‘The Man in the White House’ in defiance of his role as President.

Barnes aptly framed the debate for what it really was – a night about Donald Trump.

“I can tell you this. Michigan is ready for 2020. Michigan democrats are paying attention, they’re engaged, and they are ready to get rid of Donald Trump.”

DNC Chair Tom Perez addressed the crowd with the nauseating energy of a disingenuous motivational coach, reminding us that the current group of democratic candidates was the most diverse in our nation’s history.

He most certainly was not referring to diversity of thought. The kick-off teaser to the candidate’s arrival featured a clip of Bernie Sanders passionately exclaiming, “There is no middle ground!”

Which I’m guessing will be the campaign slogan of the Democratic nominee. Joe Biden can thank Bernie later.

‘Welcome to the Democratic Party, where there is No Middle Ground!’

With the Detroit Debate Hall primed and ready, CNN moderators gave the rules. Each Democrat was allowed to give a short introduction.

We learned that the panel of rich, successful people on the stage – all of whom want to take your money – had blue collar roots.

When will politicians realize voters don’t care if your father owned a small business or your single mother worked two jobs? Having humble roots does not make a candidate rare, nor explicitly more qualified to serve the public.

No candidate stood out or stood up for anything except for open borders, socialized medicine, and free education – which is now par for the course in towing the Democratic party line.

Popularity wise it’s a toss-up, with Elizabeth Warren seeming to garner positive feedback from followers. Twitter users commented post-debate that Pete Buttigieg, presidential hopeful and Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, came across as angry and out of touch.

According to Fox News, Bernie Sander’s Twitter handle had almost 12,000 mentions during the debate, and Elizabeth Warren following close behind. Surprisingly, Marrianne Williamson was the most Googled candidate, CNN calling her a ‘voice of conscience’ today.

Williamson’s chances of being nominee are nil and she’s basically a ratings pawn. The wide-eyed love Guru will fail in politics – and I’d bet that she knows that – but she’ll sell more of her books this year than last.

And so goes the Democratic debates: a group of people who want to profit off of the American people but could care less about the issues. Candidates who espouse socialist ideology but live in gated communities and expect lavish lifestyles for themselves and their own families.

Because of the Democrats refusal to appeal to the center, they will lose in 2020.

Just like Bernie shouts, there is no middle ground.
