Back in 2010, Obama was in a very big pickle.

A massive scandal surrounding his Senate seat in Illinois was brewing and it looked like he was about to be named as a player in the scandal.

It all started when former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich found himself at the center of a corruption case that threatened to send him to prison for a very long time.

Blagojevich was accused – and convicted – of trying to “sell” the vacated U.S. Senate seat in Illinois that was once held by then-President Barack Obama.

However, the governor’s defense team had an “ace in the hole.” They planned to subpoena Obama as a star witness.

According to the defense, Obama was far more involved in the scandal than people thought.

“First, Mr. Obama contradicts the testimony of an important government witness,” the lawyer’s motion read.

“Second, President Obama’s testimony is relevant to the necessary element of intent of the defendant.

“Intent of the defendant….” Yikes, sounds damning.

Lastly, the defense lawyers said, “President Obama is the only one who can say if emissaries were sent on his behalf, who those emissaries were, and what, if anything, those emissaries were instructed to do on his behalf.”

But President Obama managed to weasel his way out of that mess and avoided being dragged into the scandal thanks to an “internal investigation” by his own people.

Give me a break.

After an internal report by Obama’s own lawyers cleared the president, a judge ultimately shot down the motion.

For Obama, it was a perfect scenario. Blagojevich was convicted and sentenced to prison, taking the fall for the scandal. Any discussion about Obama’s involvement, which was seemingly so minimal that a court refused to subpoena him, could safely be declared a right-wing conspiracy.

That is, until President Donald Trump commuted Blagojevich’s sentence Tuesday.

Redactions in Blagojevich’s original motion seem to hint Obama was more involved than he let on.

The claims link Obama to a convicted fraudster, a quid pro quo scheme and secret phone calls. If this subpoena had been granted 10 years ago, there’s a good chance we would know a great deal more than we do now.

This sounds like a massive scandal that could have Obama’s fingerprints all over it.

After all, who would benefit most if that Senate seat was “sold” to someone friendly to Obama?

You’ll recall, Obama was shellacked by the Tea Party during midterms in 2010 and retook control of the House. They took control of the Senate in 2014’s midterms.

Now, we find out what, if anything, Mr. Blagojevich has to say about the seat that was up for sale a decade ago.
